Starting with next weekend at Notts County. The Inland Championship takes place at Northampton in October before the last main event of the year at Draycote. Notts County Fireball Open: 6-7th September Fleet Captain Contact: Kevin Hope, 07974 715377 Club Website www.ncsc.org.uk First Start Time: 13.00 The autumn winds usually arrive just in time for the Notts County open, which always seems to attract a good breeze. Perhaps more importantly, it also always attracts a good fleet with many top fireballers lining up to try to beat the locals. The event is equally popular with sailors from nearby clubs who may only travel once or twice a year and classic boats so good racing can be expected right through the fleet. How to get there: From Nottingham, take the A612 towards Newark. Shortly before arriving Thurgaton Village, turn right into the road signposted ?Industrial Area?. Follow this road over the railway crossing and turn left off the road at the next right hand bend, passing in front of a number of portakabins/offices. At this point the road becomes a track. After about 200 yards, turn right through the club gate and continue along the track to the club. Accommodation: Campsites, B&Bs and Hotels are available close by. Last Years Winners: Andy Smith & Jonny Mildred, Notts County http://www.ncsc.org.uk/forms/Notice%20of%20Race%20Fireball%202008.pdf Symmetric Grand Prix, Rutland - 20/21 September This is the event when all the classes within the ?Fastsail? group get together for a big grudge match to see who?s class is best! The emphasis of the event is on enjoyment and participation at all levels, but it is essential of course that the Fireballs win the fleet prize! Normally plenty of prizes at this one aswell. Pre enter to save ?5 on the entry fee. http://www.fastsail.org/news.php Notice of Race http://www.sailfd.org/GBR/doc/SGP2008NoR.pdf Chelmarsh Fireball Open: 21st September Fleet Captain Contact: Jonathan Carter - 07971 242331 Email: jc-home at hotmail.co.uk Club Website www.chelmarshsailing.org.uk First Start Time: 1100 Chelmarsh sailing club has a large active Fireball fleet, which can be counted on to be out in force for their annual open meeting. They are usually joined by boats from the Midlands and the North West, along with the odd boat from a bit further afield. The only one day open meeting scheduled for this year, it is ideal for those who can?t manage a whole weekend away for sailing. How to get there: From the north leave Bridgnorth Low Town on the B4363. Turn left onto the B4555 and follow this road through Chelmarsh Village. After the village the reservoir will be visible for a short time on the left, then turn left on a signposted road to Chelmarsh Reservoir. With a growing fleets at one of the largest venues in the midlands, and easily reachable from most parts of the country, it is an ideal location for the Inland Championships. How to get there: From Northampton, take the A508 towards Market Harborough. Shortly before entering Brixworth, turn right at the roundabout signposted ?Country Park?. Draycote Water Fireball Open 1-2 November (End of Season Champs) Fleet Captain Contact: Helen Salisbury, 07837 410 575 Club Website www.draycotewater.co.uk First Start Time: TBC Draycote Water Sailing Club has a huge Fireball fleet, and most of these will be there for the open meeting. So even before any visitors arrive there is nearly an open meetings worth of boats on site. Then, on top of that the event always attracts higher than average numbers of visitors. There were over 60 boats in total last year, despite no wind being forecast. It?s not just for the hotshots though, many of the Draycote sailors will be competing in their first open meeting, and the lake is very large so there?s no problem finding space on the course. How to get there: The club is on the A426 between Dunchurch and Southam, and the reservoir is well signposted. Accommodation: Camping is available in a field next to the club. B&B accommodation is available close by. Last years winners: Richard Mason & Simon Hextall, Notts County Sailing Club -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
